End of the Semester

Friday is my last day of school for this semester. I have a lot of homework yet... to include reading Oedipus the King and writing a 1500 word paper comparing Aristotle's concept of tragedy. I also have to write 7 lesson plans for differentiated instruction.

Not only do I have a lot of school work, but it is also going to be a busy week. So, I won't be posting until sometime Saturday. I do have a lot of stuff to post about the kiddos though, so look for my next post this weekend....

Now back to reading Oedipus the King. ugh.

Diet Coke and Mentos

Shopping at the BX today I found this

Ever hear about the diet soda and Mentos experiment? Check this out.

Because the kids love experiments so much, I thought I would pick up this little kit (only 3 bucks by the way) and see if it really works. 

You just need a 2 Liter of Diet Coke (use diet because it won't leave a sticky mess behind), some Mentos, and The Geyser Tube.

Set up the bottle on a flat surface so it won't spill over. 

Stand back, pull the red string, and enjoy. 

(I moved the kids farther back, but apparently the wind was blowing in their direction so they got a bit wet)

There isn't much left of the Coke.

Zoo trip!

Wyatt's class took a trip to the Minot Zoo today. It was a beautiful warm day for a zoo trip. The sun was bright and the temps were in the low 60's (yes, this is warm). Even though our zoo is considerably smaller than the zoo in Houston we love how close we can get to the animals. Some of the animals were still in 'hiding' due to the lower temps. Wyatt LOVES the penguins, but they are African Penguins and prefer warmer temps. Wyatt noticed that the penguins were not out. He said someone stole them.

This sign always makes me laugh. Apparently the cats are known to pee on people...

We are able to be just a few feet away from the fence. I remember at the Houston Zoo you had to search for the cats. Their pens were SO large it was hard to find them.

This is a snow leopard. 

My FAVORITE part of our zoo. These bears are so fun to watch. They used to have a food dispenser filled with dog food that we could toss to the bears. Sometimes the bears would stick their paws outside of the bars to reach the fallen food. It was really cool to get that close to them. These two bears were playing around for a while.

It took a lot of bribing to get Wyatt to smile for me.

After the zoo his class went to a nearby park to play. I decided to take some pictures.

These are the tracks that the little train rides around by the zoo. No trains were in use at the time 

Wyatt had a little accident on his bike later that day. He has some pretty nasty road rash on the side of his face. 

Box Tops!

Just because the school year is almost over doesn't mean that Kylee doesn't want your box tops. Please keep clipping them throughout the summer. Around September or October Kylee's school runs a contest to see which class can bring in the most Box Tops. I'm hoping her class will win next year with the help of our family

Thanks Mom and Jackie for sending in y'alls box tops! It was A LOT of them. I should have saved them  until next fall for the contest but I decided just to let Kylee take them in... even if they won't get turned in until the Fall.

Not sure what average is, but its never this high. 

There is a lot of road damage around our area. The roads on base are also bulging out. After being here this long I've never seen flooding like this before. 

Wyatt's field trip

Wyatt's class took a field trip to Oak Park today. Its a pretty nice park with a great playground. The kids had a blast playing and chasing the geese.

Wyatt's class will be going to the zoo next week as well as Bowling. I'm not sure if I will be able to make it to those field trips, but I hope I can. His last day of school is 11 May. He'll have a couple weeks off before he starts his awesome summer program at Head Start.
